The Steel Twin Lintel Band (STABLE) is an innovative seismic retrofitting technique developed by CSIR-CBRI Roorkee in collaboration with IIT Kanpur to enhance the safety and service life of vulnerable masonry buildings. Designed to be quick, economical, and easy to implement, the technique strengthens existing structures through the installation of steel lintel bands and corner strengthening elements, significantly improving their seismic performance while minimizing disruption to occupants. The STABLE methodology includes step-by-step guidance on inspection, installation, grouting, bolting, corrosion protection, and finishing, making it suitable for large-scale adoption across diverse seismic zones. The technology has been successfully demonstrated through training and live implementation programs in Uttarakhand, Tripura, and Maharashtra, helping build local engineering capacity for safer and more resilient communities.
