How safe are the existing structures in India during seismic events ??
It is necessary now, more than ever, post the Turkey Earthquakes, to seriously review the existing building structures for ensuring satisfactory performance even in high intensity earthquakes in India. The National Building Code has mandated a Technical Audit of all public buildings more than 15m high, every 3 to 5 years, and for buildings whose performance is found to be unsatisfactory, appropriate retrofitting measures shall be taken up. These assessments must include structural safety audit as well as a comprehensive review of electrical and fire installations. They should also ensure conformity to the latest bye laws and the structural audit thus carried out shall be based on the latest revision of earthquake codes. This is a herculean task and requires conscious effort by all the stakeholders to ensure safety of lives and also protect assets in the event of an earthquake. Together we can make construction safer.
Join us for the live discussion to address these issues by the expert from the industry - Ms. Sangeeta Wij – Managing Partner (SD Engineering Consultants).
