Workshop on "Challenges & Opportunities in Seismic Engineering"

A one-day workshop on “Challenges & Opportunities in Seismic Engineering” was conducted on 10th August 2024 at Kalinga Institute of Industrial Technology (KIIT)  under the aegis of the Seismic Academy.

The workshop had an engaging session delivered by Mr. Kiran Kakre, Director, M/s Vertical Pvt. Ltd. on “Active & Passive Systems in Seismic Engineering”. Dr. B G Mohapatra, Faculty, School of Civil Engineering, KIIT highlighted on the basic design and detailing considerations under earthquake. Mr. S Mukherjee, Senior Consultant, M/s Basu Consulting Engineers touch based on the specific design and detail requirement of earthquake resistant steel structures.

Mr. Shounak Mitra, Head – Codes & Approval, M/s Hilti India Pvt. Ltd. shared insight on the important of seismic design for non-structural elements. Mr. Siddharth Mohanty from M/s S M Consultants shared different case studies on building retrofits.

The workshop concluded with a session by Mr. Meghanad Behera from Orissa State Disaster Management Authority who provided great insight on the role of disaster management in ensuring disaster resilient infrastructure.

The workshop was conducted under the inspiration of Dr. P Saha, Professor, School of Civil Engineering, KIIT.
