About The Workshop :
A technical workshop on “Strengthening & Retrofitting of existing structures with post-installed systems.” As urban demands evolve, extension of the service life of existing buildings has become essential to balance growth with sustainability. This often requires strengthening structures affected by aging, change in functional needs, safety requirements, or design and construction deficiencies. Structural retrofitting improves performance, reduces downtime, conserves materials, and ensures public safety, using either global or local strengthening methods as needed. This lecture covered common strengthening techniques include concrete jacketing with post-installed rebars, steel jacketing using post-installed anchors, and innovative shear-strengthening systems employing post-installed chemical anchors without base plates. Shear failure and punching shear failure are critical for concrete beams, slabs and foundations. This discussion will review the local strengthening techniques with post-installed solutions, codal provisions for design, testing and installations and some real-time The session received an excellent response from the M. Tech and PhD students, with strong engagement and several meaningful technical questions. A major highlight of the visit was discussing connection design, detailing practices, and opportunities to collaborate on strengthening national standards. The workshop was conducted under the inspiration of Prof. Chandrashekhar Lakavath from Concrete Research Laboratory and Structural Engineering division.
